Hidden Gourmet - review of a Goan resort

Planet Goa - part of The Beach Shack Series Vol 4 Issue 4 | January 1st, 2014

Hidden Gourmet is undoubtedly the most magical place to stay on Patnem Beach. Located on the northernmost tip of the headland, it offers an unparalleled and sweeping view over south Goa’s prettiest bay. This is a small yet special guesthouse with two large Mango Wooden Bungalows, five en-suite Stone Rooms and south Goa’s only Boutique Eco-Tent, all set amongst the tropical flowers and palms of a beautiful private garden.

The guesthouse and restaurant are overseen by gregarious Swiss-born Owner and Chef, Patrick Buob. A popular long-term resident of Patnem, Patrick has created a place in which to both stay and dine that offers a uniquely different experience of ‘beach shack’ accommodation. Guests here can make the most of coastal village life (each hut is just a stone’s throw away from the golden sands of Patnem) - but the real pleasure lies in being able to leave the busy beach scene behind and slink away to your peaceful and exclusive retreat.

King sized beds, electric fans, mosquito nets, stunning ocean vistas and large open-plan western style bathrooms ensure an idyllic choice of accommodation for families, couples, solo travellers and long-term guests alike. The Mango Wooden Bungalows are organically made from local bamboo and mango wood, and each have a private balcony and hammock for an undisturbed afternoon siesta.

The Stone Rooms are individually designed and simply yet comfortably furnished, with a Family Room offering two double beds and an adjoining bathroom. If you follow a path of flowers by day or a string of golden lights after dusk, you will come across South Goa’s most beautiful Boutique Eco Tent ‘hidden’ at the far end of the resort. With a huge bedroom, an en-suite bathroom and a private sit-out area, there can be nothing more romantic than indulging in that gorgeous view from the comfort of your own king sized bed.

Your stay here will also be enhanced by Hidden Gourmet’s namesake restaurant, the most stylish place to dine in Patnem. Serving delicious fusion cuisine, great cocktails and Swiss-style breakfasts, the restaurant and luxe chill out area are the perfect place in which to begin and end your perfect Goan day.
